AURORE PRADERE*
"The Counjai evidently came under the personal observation of the lady who collected some secular Creole songs in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, which found their way into Slave Songs of the United States. They were sung, she says, "to a simple sort of dance, a sort of minuet."
Aurore Pradere, belle 'ti fille, (ter) Cest li mo 'oule, c'est li ma pren.
♦We are indebted for this son* to Dorothy Scarborough's On the Trail of Negro Folk-Songs, W. Allen, Ware, and Garrison's Slave Songs of the United States, and H. E. KrehbiePs Afro-Amterica* Folk-Sengs.
